ENROLMENT

Foreign citizens and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship can apply and enrol in the first year of undergraduate study programs at the University of Primorska in accordance with requirements and criteria stipulated by:

Those foreign citizens with permanent residence in Slovenia who (or whose parents) are taxpayers in Slovenia and citizens of the European Union are subject to the same application procedure as citizens of the Republic of Slovenia.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Foreign citizens and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship may apply and enroll in the 1st year of undergraduate study programmes, provided that they have:
completed four-year secondary school,
passed the Slovene language examination (if so required by the study programme),
completed education recognition procedure for academic purposes or completed recognition procedure for secondary school certificates,
passed the test of artistic aptitude or psycho-physical capacity (if so required by the study programme).
Enrollment requirements for individual study programmes are listed in the Pre-enrollment Announcement (available only in Slovene Language).

APPLICATION

Those foreign citizens with permanent residence in Slovenia who (or whose parents) are taxpayers in the Slovenia and citizens of the European Union are subject to the same application procedure as citizens of Slovenia.

First application for enrolment

Candidates can apply from 10 February 2009 to 5 August 2009.
Candidates applying for study programmes requiring artistic ability and psycho-physical capacity tests must send the written application form no later than 9 March 2009.
You must apply for the first year study at the University of Primorska on the Initial Application for Enrolment in the First Year (Prva prijava za vpis v 1. letnik) form. You can submit your application on paper or electronically.

Applications in writings: application forms (form DZS 1,71/1) are on sale during the application period in bookshops and stationery shops in Slovenia. The application form in English is also available. You must send the application by register mail to:

Electronic applications: electronic application form (only in the Slovene language) is available on the website of the Admissions Office.
Candidates who intend to enroll in study programmes that require tests of artistic aptitude and psycho-physical capacity may find the dates for those tests in the Pre-enrollment Announcement.

Second application for enrolment

Candidates can apply from 1 October 2009 to 5 October 2009.
They can apply for available places for foreign citizens, which will be published 25 September 2009 on the website of the Admissions Office of the University of Primorska.
Applications in writings: You must send the application by registered mail to the university member, where you wish to continue studies.

NUMBER OF AVAILABLE PLACES

The number of study places available for foreign citizens and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship shall be determined and published in the yearly Pre-enrollment Announcement (available only in Slovene language).
The number of full-time study places available may not, as a rule, exceed 5 % of the number of full-time study places available by study programmes that are announced for the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and the citizens of the European Community, with at least half of these places being reserved for Slovene nationals without Slovene citizenship.
The number of part-time study places available may not, as a rule, exceed 50 % of the number of part-time study places available by study programmes that are announced for the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and the citizens of the European Community.
If the number of candidates applying for enrollment exceeds the number of study places available as determined in the Pre-enrollment Announcement, candidates shall be selected in accordance with the same criteria and procedure as are stipulated for the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and the citizens of the European Community.
If full-time or part-time study places, announced for the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and the citizens of the European Community, remain vacant, foreign citizens and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship may apply for those places as well.

Candidates must send with the written Application all necessary evidence.

Candidates must send notarised copies of final certificates and identification document. Other certificates can be original.
Candidates must send the Admissions Office the following documents:

  1. Final certificate of four-year secondary school,
  2. Certificates for the last two years of completed secondary school stating general learning success for individual years,
  3. Decision on the recognition of certificates obtained abroad,
  4. Identification document (acceptable identification document including notarized copies of birth certificates, certificate of citizenship, passport or personal identity card),
  5. Certificate for the Slovene language examination (if the study programme requires it).

All certificates (final certificate of four-year secondary school, certificates for the last two years of completed secondary school), except bilingual ones, must be translated into Slovene by a court translator.

RECOGNITION WITH A VIEW TO ACCESS EDUCATION IN THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA

General

Recognition with a view to access education in the Republic of Slovenia is a procedure during the course of which the holder of a foreign school certificate is issued a decision recognising his/her the right to continue education in the Republic of Slovenia.
The procedure is initiated by the holder of a foreign school certificate who has to submit his/her application to the higher education institution of the Republic of Slovenia where s/he seeks to pursue his/her education. Appropriate documents shall be included with the application.
A complaint against the decision issued by the higher education institution can be filed with the senate of the higher education institution concerned within eight days of the decision has been received by the holder.
On the basis of the decision on recognition, the higher education institution shall enrol the holder of a foreign school certificate in the appropriate study program.

The procedure of recognition of education of candidates (foreign citizens and Slovenes without Slovene citizenship) who have finished or will finish secondary school abroad and have not undergone the procedure of recognition of foreign school certificates.

Certificates that do not require recognition

Certificates from the former Yugoslav republics obtained before 25 June 1991 do not need to be recognized.
International Baccalaureate (IB) certificates are equivalent to matura certificates obtained in the Republic of Slovenia and do not require recognition.

SLOVENE LANGUAGE EXAMINATION

Higher education institutions of the University of Primorska:

Candidates who completed primary or secondary school in Slovenia or a bilingual secondary school do not have to pass the examination.

TUITION FEES
Foreign citizens from non-EU countries have to pay tuition fees for full-time undergraduate study programmes. The tuition fee must be paid for the current year of study upon enrolment at the faculty.

The amount of the tuition fee is set by the higher education institution and is the same as the tuition fee for part-time study programmes for citizens of the Republic of Slovenia. The price list is available only in Slovene language.

The tuition fee does not include the mandatory health insurance. This has to be settled before the start of study.
