Mediterranean agricolture and the environment
In the field of agricultural sciences, research is focused on the holistic study of Mediterranean agricultural and aromatic plants at all levels from molecules to ecosystems, incorporating agronomic and food technologies, modern approaches to genetics, genomics and transcriptomics, and plant biotechnology. In the field of fisheries, research is focused on the development of molecular tools that enable the traceability of fish and fish products to be monitored. Researchers use bioinformatics approaches to link and edit biological data. The interdisciplinarity of professional profiles enables an in-depth exploration of the complex Mediterranean agroecosystem and rapid response to the current topics of the agricultural sector. Much of the research focus is on revitalizing the agricultural sector and exploring the health status of the agroecosystem. The main fields of research are genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics of Mediterranean plants, analysis of plant biological compounds and their therapeutic effects, plant protection (population studies of diseases and pests), resistance assessment and development of alternative plant protection approach reproductive biology, and plant reproduction, agronomic impacts crop, and quality technologies, biological data processing, and bioinformatics, agronomic technologies, environmental factors analysis, and structural biology.
Environmental science measures the pollution of air and seawater in the Port of Koper. Air pollution measurements (dust particles) are carried out at three locations, with black carbon measurements taken at one location. A buoy-mounted mull it-parameter probe is used for marine monitoring. Researchers also cooperate with Luka Koper in the field of security. To this end, they have set up a system for the control of hydrocarbon spills. As part of the protection of work processes, wind speed measurements are carried out, which are used for their needs by the Port of Koper Security Control Center.
