National Research Programmes and Projects

National research programmes and projects are conducted within the framework of the national research and development programme Research and Innovation Strategy of the Republic of Slovenia 2011–2013 (RISS). Professional, developmental and executive tasks relating to the Strategy are performed by the Slovenian Research Agency (SRA).

National research at the University of Primorska is carried out within research programmes, basicappliedpostdoctoral and target projects mainly in the fields of natural sciences, medicine, social sciences, and humanities, as well in the fields of engineering, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary research. National research programmes and projects are financed by the Slovenian Research Agency and Slovenian ministries (target projects) and other interested users (applied projects).

Research Programmes

Research programmes are a public service which represent an area of research that is relevant and useful for a longer period of time and which is of such importance for Slovenia that there is national interest, as defined in the National Research and Development Programme, for long-term research by the programme group in this area. Research Projects

A basic project covers experimental or theoretical work undertaken primarily to acquire new knowledge of the underlying foundations of phenomena and observable facts, without any particular application or use in view. An applied project is also original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge. It is, however, directed towards a specific practical aim or objective. It may include industrial research. A postdoctoral project may be a basic or applied research activity implemented so that a researcher can acquire additional postdoctoral experiences and knowledge and also provides additional training for Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship who are returning to Slovenia.
