Research in the field of intercultural studies examines the management and valorization of heritage and cultural contacts in a linguistically and culturally mixed area of Slovenian Istria and the Kras; research has also dealt with the broad aspects of interculturalism in Europe. The interdisciplinary approach links social and economic history, archaeology, ethnology, anthropology, and (landscape) architecture. History and cultural heritage in modern times represents an important factor in identity, attraction, and development. The purpose of the projects is to provide experts in the field and the local population with research results, expertise, information and tools for a critical approach to the understanding and reading of their history and heritage and to raise the quality and attractiveness of initiatives in this field. At the same time, the focus is on tools and educational programs that enable the use of modern technological tools in the preservation, enrichment, and promotion of cultural heritage, following the principles of information literacy and knowledge of digitization, easy access to information and the preservation of cultural heritage and cultural diversity.
The focus of the research is the questions that deal with issues of heritage and ethnic relations, multilingualism, identity and minorities, in particular in the area of Slovenian-Italian contact within the framework of Slovenian-French relations, as well as in Mesoamerica, from the perspective of anthropology, language, folklore, literature, geography, etc. in accordance with the principles of information literacy and knowledge of digitization, easy access to information and the preservation of cultural heritage and cultural diversity.
