SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE SUMMER SCHOOL »HELLO, THIS IS THE SLOVENIAN MEDITERRANEAN!« SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ALSO THIS YEAR, DESPITE OF MOVING ONLINE
Between the 6th and 17th July, the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska, in cooperation with ZRS Koper and with the financial support of the Office for Slovenians Abroad, organized the 27th Summer School of Slovenian language and culture on the Slovenian coast. With the call »Hello, this is the Slovenian Mediterranean!«, numerous attendants from around the world were invited to participate and improve their language skills. This year, 22 people from different corners of the world responded to the call – mostly from Argentina, as well as from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Italy and Sri Lanka. The organizers are most pleased that some of them repeatedly returned to the courses.
Due to the current pandemic situation, this year's courses were held online. At first sight, this could make an impression of distance; nonetheless, the small groups permitted participants to get closer and relax, as well as to create a pleasant atmosphere. The students showed a great deal of motivation and eagerness to learn, which further reduced the online distance as their Slovene improved day by day.
In addition to the language, participants also learned about Slovenian culture and customs, which they compared with their native ones. This is always an interesting ritual, promising some fun discoveries. Thus, the Argentinian and the Italian were surprised, when they found out that Slovenians have dinner very early, and that the custom of taking off your shoes before entry indoors is obligatory in BiH but not present in Argentina. In short – this year’s courses brought a lot of learning as well as laughter. The summer school ended by testing the students' knowledge. The exam was passed by all 22 participants who obtained certificates on the full scale: from A1 to C1.
