- Our researchers awarded with four Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships
Researchers from the University of Primorska and InnoRenew CoE have successfully obtained four projects in the MSCA call – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action for individual fellowship (MSCA-IF-2020). Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions support researchers at all stages of their careers, regardless of age and nationality, and researchers working across all disciplines are eligible for funding. The MSCA also support cooperation between industry and academia and innovative training to enhance employability and career development. Among eleven projects acquired by Slovenian research institutions, one, and so far the first at the University of Primorska, was acquired by Assoc. Prof. dr. Katja Hrobat Virloget (UP Faculty of Humanities), and three were acquired by InnoRenew researchers.
What rights future generations will have to access natural resources can be explored based on the experience of previous generations. The project »Owners of a Common Heritage. Commons, Environment and Rights in European Mountains (18th - 20th century)« under the acronym OCHER, will, among other things, deal with this. Research will be carried out by Giulie Beltrametti, PhD under the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Katja Hrobat Virloget, archaeologist and ethnologist, a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Primorska. Beltrametti will research and train in anthropological aspects of the management of the middle ground; under the mentorship of legal historian Prof. Sarah Vanuxem from the Université Côte d’Azur (UCA) in Nice, France, she will address the legal-historical aspects.
OCHER addresses the challenges of legal anthropology and seeks to contribute to the reflection on new environmental rights that go beyond the human/nature dichotomy by understanding historical forms of the non-destructive interrelationship between social and ecological systems. It addresses the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and intends to provide a proposed basis for project results.
At InnoRenew CoE, Dr Oihana Gordobil has been awarded for her project »Green synthesis of sustainable BIO-sourced multi-functional ingredient for skin CARE applications«, (BIO4CARE), under the supervision of Dr Anna Sandak (UP and InnoRenew CoE), InnoRenew CoE Wood Modification research group leader, and in collaboration with Dr Anton Friedl, head of the Bioresources and Plant Science research division and university professor in chemical engineering at the Institute of Chemical, Environmental and Bioscience Engineering, TU Wien. Dr. Esakkiammal Sudha has been awarded for her project, »Modified lignin nanoparticles for composite and bio-based/Cu packaging applications« (PACK-NIN), under the supervision of Dr David DeVallance (UP and InnoRenew CoE), InnoRenew CoE Renewable Materials Composites research group leader, and in collaboration with Dr Mika Sipponen, assistant professor of materials chemistry and Sustainable Materials Chemistry research group leader in the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University.
The third project, »Carbon accounting in the forest-based industry – maximising the mitigation potential of wood products in Slovenia« will be supervised by Dr Andreja Kutnar (UP and InnoRenew CoE), InnoRenew CoE director, and in collaboration with Dr Giacomo Grassi from the Joint Research Centre of the EU Commission and Dr Primož Simončič from the Slovenian Forestry Institute.
Congratulations!
