Leto: STAR-VITAL - Joint Measures for the Vitality of Older Workers

Project Title: Joint Measures for the Vitality of Older Workers

Project acronym: STAR-VITAL
Web page: www.star-vital.si

Project Coordinator: University of Primorska, Slovenia
Partner institutions:
- Faculty of Health Sciences Angela Boškin Jesenice, Slovenia
- National Institute of Public Health, Slovenia
-. Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, Slovenia

Participating member of the UP: University of Primorska, Faculty of Health Sciences, Slovenia
Project manager at the UP: PhD Širok Klemen

Funding: European Social Fund – ESF, Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities
Duration: 1.9.2017 – 30.9.2022

Description:
The University of Primorska is the lead partner in the project Joint Measures for the Vitality of Older Workers (STAR-VITAL) (https://www.star-vital.si/domov). In cooperation with the Slovenian National Institute of Public Health, the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia and the Faculty of Health Sciences Angela Boškin, the University of Primorska assists 110 companies in the cohesion region of western Slovenia in establishing and integrating concrete measures to protect and promote workers’ health and wellbeing, especially those of elderly employees. It offers its assistance free of charge. As the needs and capacities of companies and individuals differ, the project activities are designed in a way that enables an individualised approach to the introduction of any measures.

The project’s main idea is based on the World Health Organisation’s concept of a healthy organisation and the model of healthy work places. This concept defines the four dimensions of a healthy work environment, which need to be implemented in organisations through planned and continuous activities: the physical work environment, the psychosocial work environment, workers’ personal health sources and organisations’ collaboration with both the local and the wider social environment. By participating in the project, companies gain an expert analysis of their current state as regards health promotion, i.e. the identification of any weaknesses and key opportunities for improvement.

Within the framework of the project, in the field of active and healthy aging of employees, especially those older than 45 years, we will develop and implement a comprehensive business model for dealing with older workers for the employers – management of the elderly (for the cohesion region of Western Slovenia).

Leto: SKUM - Developing communication competences through cultural-art education

Project Title: Developing communication competences through cultural-art education

Project acronym: SKUM
Web page: www.skum.si

Project Coordinator: University of Primorska, Slovenia
Partner institutions: The consortium consists of 32 partners, specifically 4 public higher education institutions, 1 public research institution, 1 public establishment and 26 education institutions.

Participating member of the UP: University of Primorska, Faculty of Education, Slovenia
Project manager at the UP: PhD Borota Bogdana

Funding: European Social Fund – ESF, Ministry of Education, Science and Sport
Duration: 18.8.2017 - 30.6.2022

Description:
The project SKUM is based on two ideas proposed by Professor Robi Kroflič.

  1. The artistic experience has a great educational potential as it accesses reality in a very specific way, as a symbolically mediated experience – with the aesthetic, imaginative complementation of art codes the recipient experiences and reflects experiences of others, thus maturing ethically. At the same time, the artistic event is a specifically rich and intense way of entering the world, which not only reflects this world, but can also improve it. Therefore, art is a value in itself. Recent research ascribes educational work with artistic experience a number of positive effects: the promotion of multiple intelligences (Gardner), narrative thinking (Bruner), creativity (Robinson, Egan), innovative forms of learning (Pringle) and identity, and moral self-esteem (Nussbaum).
  2. For the development of culture subjectification, imaginativeness, and multisemantics of the experience achieved through artistic languages are as important as scientific discourses.

Teaching in art and with the aid of artistic experience, as well as creation of the space where access to artistic experience is made possible, indicate the need for new didactic approaches, practices, and innovative learning environments. The purpose of the project is thus, further, to develop links between educational institutions and artists as well as with cultural institutions in the direction of expanding innovative and open learning environments supported by new didactic approaches that will strengthen the communicative potential of children/learners/adolescents. Special attention will be devoted to the development of these contents in culturally less encouraging settings and to affirmation of the fields of art less well-established in educational settings.

The basic objectives of the SKUM project are:
- to determine how and in what way preschool institutions and schools make it possible for children / adolescents to get in touch with top artistic experiences;
- to develop didactic approaches in artistic and other educational fields and new forms of linking educational work with artistic activities, including those in less well-established areas of art, with the aim of raising the level of communicative abilities of children / adolescents.

Project manager at the UP: PhD Bratož Silva

Funding: European Social Fund – ESF, Ministry of Education, Science and Sport
Duration: 17.6.2017 – 30.6.2022

Description:
The main goal of the project is to determine which factors support and which hinder the creation of a supportive learning environment for the development of plurilingualism in the Slovenian school context. Based on data from target analyses and identified variables, guidelines will be developed to help create a plurilingualism-friendly educational environment. Educational institutions which participate in the project and help to promote and develop a successful plurilingualism-friendly learning environment will gain a special language pass.

By introducing intercultural aspects in linguistic and non-linguistic subjects, learners will be taught to recognise and consciously accept various linguistic and cultural realities. This will enable them to avoid breakdowns and misunderstandings in intercultural communication and develop critical cultural awareness. In addition, learners will be encouraged to continuously explore the changing reality in their society and respond to it without unnecessary stereotypes and prejudices.

With its modern and innovative web portal, the project’s long-term goal is to overcome the distinction between linguistic and non-linguistic subjects by promoting plurilingualism and developing digital competences to connect different subject areas with all the languages present in the Slovenian environment. Furthermore, the project aims to reach beyond the educational context into local communities and thus give meaning to both subject content and competence development.

The project pays particular attention to the less widespread or in our educational environment the lesser taught languages, the languages of immigrants and languages towards which the school policy has been less favourable in recent decades (Latin, Greek).

Description:
The project “Promotion of activities for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and psychosocial risks at work” (hereinafter: the project) will contribute to reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders and psychosocial risks at work, which for decades have been the main cause of absenteeism, long absence from work , occupational disability and early retirement of workers. The project will be implemented under the Operational Program for the Implementation of European Cohesion Policy 2014-2020, under Priority Axis 8: “Promoting employment and transnational labor mobility”, 8.3 Priority investments: “Active and healthy aging”, 8.3.1 the specific objective: “Extending and improving the work activity of older people involved in the measures”.

The activities of this project are primarily aimed at all employees, especially those over 45 years of age, as well as employers and the general professional and interested public. The project itself will recognize the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders and psychosocial risks, depending on the workload of the individual and job characteristics in various economic activities. This project is aimed directly at prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorders and psychosocial risks of employees, as it is derived from the analysis of health data on employees in Slovenia. The project thus represents a direct link between the actual prevalence of the most common forms of musculoskeletal disorders and the psychosocial risks of employees in Slovenia and the possible preventive and other measures to manage the problem in this field.
