CALL FOR UP STUDENTS RELATED TO FLOODS (AFFECTED OR VOLUNTEERS)
After the floods in August, which affected a large part of Slovenia, including regions from which both our employees and students come, UP has primarily established a policy to address the issue of students who were part of the consequences of the floods, either affected or involved in various forms of post-flood assistance.
At this time, we are already in the middle of the autumn exam period and we are calling on students who have been directly affected by the flood situation and students who have actively and to a greater extent helped (or are still helping) in flood relief or support activities, to contact tutors, study programme coordinators or faculty offices as soon as possible in case of a recognised need, in order to initiate the appropriate procedures for a prompt and timely response, so that they can be relieved of their worries about continuing their studies as soon as possible.
UP has necessary mechanisms in place, which enable extraordinary exam periods (set in agreement between the teacher and the student) and possibilities for enrolment in the higher year without all obligations, students status extension on re-enrolment. The best approach depends on the individual situation of each student (passed subjects, fullfilment of conditions for enrolment into a higher year, domestic situation, used statuses in the past, etc.).
Therefore, the faculties and their committees will be guaranteeing special statutes individually, following students' requests submitted through student offices. Students who were directly affected should approach their teachers to discuss extraordinary exam periods or submit requests with supporting documentation through the student information system to enrol in the higher year without all obligations, extend their status or re-enrol.
As always, UP supports and encourages volunteering by students and staff. Therefore, also for students who have been or are still involved to a greater extent in flood relief and would need to trigger the above-mentioned mechanisms (emergency examinations, etc.) to a proportionate extent, the issues are to be dealt with on an individual basis on the basis of a request, accompanied by proof of having provided longer-term or more extensive assistance (e.g. a certificate from a volunteer or other organisation, a firefighting association, the Civil Protection Service, an organisation coordinating the relief effort, evidence of other forms of assistance).
Students can contact teacher tutors and student offices to discuss about their possibilities and best options. Affected students can also reach out to the psychological consultancy at UP.
