Exhibition of the academic painter dr. Tilen Žbona on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of UP
On the occasion of the University’s 20th anniversary and the inauguration of the University of Primorska Week, painter Tilen Žbona, PhD. presents his latest series of large and medium-sized paintings made using the techniques of graphite on canvas, rabbit-skin glue, and paper collage. The works are executed in the Renaissance technique of painting and drawing coatings of study methods.
The title “Homage to the Blue Rider” is a tribute to the artistic style of Der Blaue Reiter and the almanac of the same name, first conceived by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc to advocate and demonstrate their ideas through the connection between their theoretical bases and their own works of art, which contributed to the development of art theory. The artists associated with Der Blaue Reiter almanac were pioneers of 20th century modern art.
Žbona’s exhibition aims to bring together knowledge from the past, a consideration of the present, and an appeal to reflect on one’s own actions and take responsibility to shape our common and immediate future.
The exhibition features paintings made between 2019 and 2023 and will run till 10th April 2023 in the Armerija Hall of the University of Primorska.

BIOGRAFIJA
Tilen Žbona was born on 31 August 1976 in Koper. He graduated in Painting from the Venice Academy of Fine Arts under his supervisor Professor Carlo Di Raco. In 2007, he defended his master’s thesis Encoding and Decoding a Video before a committee comprised of Prof. Srečo Dragan, Prof. Franc Solina and Asst. Prof. Janez Strehovec. In 2011, the Senate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana awarded him a recognition of important works of art in the field of video and new artistic practices. In 2017, Tilen Žbona defended his doctoral thesis The Use of New Media in Teaching Spatial Design in Primary School before a committee comprised of Assoc. Prof. Beatriz Gabriela Tomšič Čerkez, Prof. Borut Juvanec, Prof. Srečo Dragan, Assoc. Prof. Janez Vogrinc and Prof. Franc Solina, thus earning the title Doctor of Philosophy in Teacher Education and Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana. He was voted member of the University Arts Observatory of the Rectors’ Conference of the Republic of Slovenia in 2015. He works as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of Primorska. He lives and works in Koper.
