On Monday, September 21, the University of Primorska hosted Dr. Sandro Scandolo, Head of Scientific Programmes and Outreach of the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics – ICTP in Trieste. He was received by the UP rector, Prof. Klavdija Kutnar, PhD, and the director of InnoRenew CoE, Prof. Andreja Kutnar, PhD. Cooperation with the world-famous research institution operating under the auspices of the United Nations is in the interest of both Slovenian institutions, while the ICPT mission is to offer its regular guests, scientists from developing countries, contacts and cooperation with institutions in the wider cross-border region.
Both University of Primorska and the InnoRenew Institute are interesting for ICTP researchers, as it focuses on science and technology (data science, mathematics, computer science) and cultural heritage – in fact, ICPT is also the first UNESCO scientific institution. During the meeting, different possibilities of cooperation and mutual research visits were discussed, as well as the development of new content both in Trieste and in the laboratories of the University and the InnoRenew Institute.
About ICTP
For more than 50 years, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has been a driving force behind global efforts to advance scientific expertise in the developing world.
Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. ICTP has been a major force in stemming the scientific brain drain from the developing world.
ICTP alumni serve as professors at major universities, chairpersons of academic departments, directors of research centres and ministers of science and technology in nations throughout the developing world. Many of them have been recognized in their own countries and internationally for their contributions to science and science policy.
